How to repair your cracked Rock Band™ drum head.

It should go without saying that this repair will void your drum warranty. Its a diy repair for diy folks. Follow these instructions at your own risk.

1. Remove offending drum head. Pull firmly at the corner of the head near each rubber peg.

2. I recommend removing your sensor to insure that it is not damaged by the epoxy. This is as easy as removing the to phillips head screws that hold the orange damper. Separate the sensor and the drum head.

3. I choose to repair the crack(s) from both the top side and the bottom side. To access the topside you will need to remove the small black phillips head screws that hold the trim ring in place.

4. Once the trim ring is removed you can separate the rubber strike surface from the black plastic drum head.  Just pull firmly from the corner untill the pad surface is free.

5. I used mesh dry wall tape over the cracked area to add strength to the repair. I strongly recommend you take this step as well. Try not to overlap the tape.

6. I used a quick set 2 part epoxy to bond the plastic back together. I applied the epoxy liberally to the tapped area of the crack and then used a piece of cardboard as a straight edge type float to press the epoxy into the mesh tape. This also smooths the repair. Very fast setting epoxys like the one that I used will make it difficult to smooth the repair well. This will show when the project is complete as a bumpy texture under the drum head. An expoxy with a slower cure time will allow for more precise sculpting of the repair.  Many different set times are available.

7. Re-apply the rubber drum skin and re-install the plastic trim ring.

8. Carefully apply epoxy to the cracked area on the underside of the drum head. Do not get adhesive in the sensor locating ring unless absolutely necessary. If you feel you must, be certain that the epoxy is flat when finished.

9. Once the epoxy is cured, re-install the sensor and dampener.

10. Place the drum head back onto the base and allow for the manufactures cure time before rocking out.
